Selected Topics in Biometrics Dr. Anil K. Jain, Michigan State University In this course we will study the design of various biometric systems based on fingerprints, voice, face, hand geometry, palmprint, iris, retina, and other modalities. Multimodal biometric systems that use two or more of the above characteristics will be discussed. Biometric system performance and issues related to the security and privacy aspects of these systems will also be addressed.

BIOM 693: Advanced Biometrics Dr. Arun Ross, West Virginia University This course will introduce a graduate audience to advanced topics in Biometrics. Emphasis will be placed on the feature extraction, representation and matching modules of a biometric system. The objective of this course is to equip students with the advanced tools necessary to design, implement and analyze biometric systems. To facilitate this, special topics in machine learning, image processing, computer vision, artificial intelligence and pattern recognition will be presented. Project work will involve the implementation of advanced biometric algorithms pertaining to the face, fingerprint, iris, hand and voice modalities.

BIOM 426: Introduction to Biometrics Systems Natalia A. Schmid, West Virginia University This course presents an introduction to the principles of operation, design, testing, and implementation of the biometric systems. Major and emerging biometric technologies (fingerprint, face, hand, iris, etc.), testing and evaluation will be discussed. Students will be introduced to a variety of methods used for prosessing data from various biometrics and to statistical methods employed to achieve acceptable falseaccept and false reject rates.
