CEM 924 Intro to Surface Analysis Simon J. Garrett, Michigan State University Solid surfaces are involved in heterogeneous catalysis, play important roles in electronic structure of semiconductor devices and are the sites of corrosion/oxidation reactions. Chemists and physicists seek to understand chemical composition of surfaces and the arrangement of atoms on surfaces. It is hoped that the reactivity and properties of the surface can be correlated with composition and atomic structure. This course is designed to meet increasing demand for analysis of solid surfaces.
